Gymnastics in Fife

In Fife school pupils, both primary and secondary, are offered the opportunity to take part in gymnastics.

Pupils are introduced to the sport through curricular activities and many take their interest in the sport further by joining an extra curricular club ran at their school either before school, during lunchtime or after school.

Competition for Pupils in Fife

For those who wish to represent their school in Fife, there are two opportunities regionally for schools to enter teams of pupils:

1. Fife Schools Regional Heats for Floor and Vault

This team event, normally held late November, exists for primary and secondary pupils to compete in Pre-Level, Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3 competitions. The regional heats are a qualifier for the Scottish Schools Championships. Pupils are expected to perform a floor strip routine and vault as part of a team of 3 or 4 pupils (girls, boys or mixed).

The winner and runner up in each category of the regional heats are given the opportunity to represent Fife and their school at the National competition competing against other local authority areas and schools across Scotland. The National Finals are held in March (Secondary Finals) and May (Primary Finals) at Bells Sports Centre in Perth.

2. Fife Schools Gymnastics Festival

Exists for nursery, primary and secondary pupils to work together to produce a group display and showcase the skills pupils have been working on during participation at their schools' extra curricular club.

Performing to music with or without the use of props and costumes the festival is all about having fun and exciting a non-competitive experience whilst being part of a team. The festival is open to all and is a great reason for pupils to take part in gymnastics without the pressure of competition.

Rules for this Festival are issued by the Fife School Sport gymnastics group.

This festival is annually held in March in a facility in Central Fife.
