Beath Cluster Big Hit Festival!
The Beath Cluster Big Hit festival took place on Friday 4th November from 10.00 am – 12.00 pm at Beath High School. The Big Hit Festivals are being delivered by Badminton Scotland as part of next year’s Badminton World Championships that are being hosted in Glasgow in August. The Beath festival was organised in partnership with Beath High School PE department, Active Schools and Jane Russell, Badminton Scotland’s Tayside & Fife Regional Development Officer.
Jane worked with the Sports Leaders over the last three weeks to deliver a six hour course incorporating elements of coaching, officiating and competition organising skills. The sports leaders supported Jane on the day by running each of the activities for the primary pupils.
Six teams from five cluster primary schools took part; Cowdenbeath, Crossgates, Foulford, Hill of Beath, and Lumphinnans. Almost 140 primary 4/5 pupils took part in the festival which gave pupils the opportunity to experience a variety of different activities on each of the four badminton courts using a range of badminton equipment.
Alongside the festival we provided a career-long professional learning training course to teaching staff who accompanied their pupils based on Badminton Scotland’s new teaching resources.
Badminton Scotland provided the sports leaders with Big Hit festival t-shirts whilst primary pupils all received a World Badminton Championships wristband. Active Schools provided pathway information to all pupils detailing Orion Badminton Club’s weekly sessions that take place on Wednesday evenings as part of Beath’s Community Use programme.
The festival was a tremendous success and was thoroughly enjoyed by the pupils, staff and the sports leaders!!
